The body control module (BCM) manages many of a vehicle’s body electronics, including door locks, lighting, wipers, the security system and, on many models, communication with the keys and immobilizer. When a BCM fails or is replaced, the replacement usually has to be programmed or cloned before the vehicle will lock, start and operate normally. Chicago Car Keys provides mobile BCM programming and BCM cloning in Chicago, Cook County, and DuPage County for compatible vehicles.
Before any programming, our technician confirms the vehicle, the module part number and the reason the original module is being replaced. A used or replacement BCM often carries another vehicle’s VIN, configuration and key data, so installing it without programming can leave the vehicle with a no-start condition, a security light, or accessories that do not respond. Depending on the vehicle, the correct procedure may be programming a new module to the vehicle, or cloning the data from the original module into the replacement so the existing keys and configuration carry over. We explain which procedure applies before work begins.
BCM Services We Provide
- BCM programming after module replacement
- BCM cloning from the original module to a replacement, when the original can still be read
- Key and immobilizer relearning after BCM work
- Diagnosis of BCM-related no-start, security-light, lock and lighting faults
Signs a BCM May Need Attention
Common symptoms include power locks or interior lights that work intermittently, a security or anti-theft light that stays on, keys or remotes that stop being recognized, and a vehicle that cranks but will not start after a module was swapped. The same symptoms can also come from wiring, fuses, a weak battery or another module, so the vehicle should be diagnosed before a BCM is replaced or programmed.
Mobile BCM Programming
Our mobile service is based in ZIP code 60632, and we travel to homes, repair shops and dealerships. Compatibility depends on the year, make, model and module, so have the VIN and the module part number ready when you call.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between BCM programming and BCM cloning?
Programming configures a replacement module for your vehicle. Cloning copies the data from your original module into the replacement so that the existing configuration and keys carry over. Which one applies depends on the vehicle and on whether the original module can still be read.
Can a used BCM be programmed to my car?
It depends on the vehicle and the module. Some used modules can be programmed or cloned, and others are locked to the original vehicle. We check compatibility before any work begins.
Will my existing keys work after the BCM is replaced?
On many vehicles the keys must be relearned after BCM work. When cloning is possible, the existing keys usually continue to work because the original data is carried over.
Do you need the original BCM for cloning?
Yes. Cloning requires reading the original module. If it is too damaged to read, programming the replacement may still be an option.
Can you program a BCM at my repair shop?
Yes. We provide mobile programming for repair shops, body shops and dealerships as well as individual vehicle owners.
