Replacing the batteries:

Key Fob Batteries are often the root of the problem when it comes to a broken car key fob replacement because they will eventually die no matter what you do. Pay attention when you need to replace the key so you are not caught off guard when your remote suddenly stop working one day.

Reprogramming:

Reprogramming may also be necessary if you get a new battery because it can come with new frequencies that must be programmed into your car’s system in order for it to connect with your car’s central locking system. Reprogramming will need to be done if you have recently moved or gotten a new car, as these will usually come with two remotes, one of which needs to be programmed to your specific vehicle in order for it to work properly. Instructions will be in your owner’s manual on how to program your car remote, as well as what kind of remote you will need to purchase if yours is lost or stolen– so make sure you keep that in a safe place!

Getting a new key:

Getting a new key might be necessary if other options have failed and/or been ruled out. Some people might try and take matters into their own hands by going to their local hardware store and having them cut them a new physical key, but this generally does not work because it needs to be paired with your car’s computer in order for it to work correctly. In order to avoid any headaches or wasted time and money, it is recommended that you contact your local dealership or locksmith so they can cut and program a new key on-site. They will need proof of ownership for this process.

Fixing the car itself:

Before doing anything else, check all of the fuses related to power locks and/or remote entry in your fuse box; if any of them are blown, replace them and see if that solves the problem before moving on to an auto locksmith. You might want to check that all of its parts are installed correctly and make sure nothing has been damaged by water or dirt since lot numbers can get lost otherwise quickly.
